Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.As Christians we become soldiers of Jesus Christ warring against primarily three things. These three things are:
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
The World - A man centered way of life, an unsaved way of life, one that has pleasure for a season. A life that ignores God and follows selfish desires, living by ungodly standards, the world says the only thing that matters, the only thing that is important is this life, not a spiritual life that puts righteousness and God first.
1 John 2:15-17
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.James 4:4
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.The Flesh - Our human nature, our old sinful nature, the me first self-centered nature, a nature characterized by sinful desires. As Christians we have a new nature, a Holy Spirit controlled nature that will desire the fruits of the Spirit and God's righteousness.
Galatians 5:17-23
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.Romans 8:11-14
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.1 Peter 2:10-11
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.Romans 6:6-12
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.Galatians 5:16
For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.Satan - The deceiver, liar, murderer, accuser, prince, tempter, an evil one. He is personal, intelligent, destructive, seducing, and tempting. However Satan is limited, his authority, his knowledge, and in his power. Jesus Christ defeated Satan on the cross by dying for our sins, raised again, and ascended to the right hand of God. Satan has no power over a Christian.
1 John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.Romans 16:20
And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:Job 1:6-12
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.Matthew 4:1-11
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.As Christian soldiers how do we fight and defeat these enemies?
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Satan - Jesus Christ has already defeated him, and provided us a way to resist his influence.
James 4:7

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.The Flesh - When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are made new, and old things are passed away. We have the Holy Spirit and God's great and faithful promise to resist sinful desire.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.The World - Things that are not of God, man centered desires and living. Christians are to separate ourselves from the world. Christians are to seek the fruits of the Spirit, Love God with all our heart, our mind, our strength, and our soul.
1 John 4:4-6
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.1 John 5:4-5
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.Proverbs 3:5-6
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.You can see that God has provided all the tools necessary to be a victorious soldier for Christ. By defeating Satan, indwelling us with the Holy Spirit, making us new creatures in Christ, and giving us his living word to follow, we can overcome and defeat all of God's enemies.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
As Christian soldiers we must obey and follow these two commandments and the great commission.
Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.Matthew 28:18-20
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.Mark 16:15
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.This is how we defeat God's enemies by loving them out of spiritual death and into spiritual life.
Proverbs 25:21-22
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
